Luis Maximiano has officially left Lazio to join Almeria on a loan deal with an obligation to buy clause attached.

The 24-year-old Portuguese goalkeeper’s single season in Rome was a complete disaster following his sixth-minute red card in his debut, a moment that defined his year in the Italian capital.

After this incident, Luis Maximiano lost his starting spot to Ivan Provedel and never regained his confidence, pushing the club to cut their losses this summer.

As officially announced, Lazio have sold Luis Maximiano to Almeria on a season-long loan deal with an obligation to buy cause attached, understood to be worth around €8.5 million.

During his single season in Rome, the Portuguese goalkeeper made six appearances across all competitions, seeing 456 minutes of action. In that time, he kept four clean sheets and conceded three goals.

Lazio are now working to bring in a new backup shot stopper and the current favourite is Tottenham veteran Hugo Lloris.
