Watch: Save of the Year contender helps Denver win Frozen Four title

On the biggest stage, Matt Davis, the netminder for No. 2 Denver, made arguably the best save of the year. In the opening minutes of the third period of Saturday's men's NCAA Frozen Four Championship, Davis made an incredible diving glove stop to deny No. 1 Boston College a goal while preserving the Pioneers' 2-0 lead.

The junior held BC, and its 14 NHL draft picks scoreless the rest of the way, helping Denver hold on for the two-goal shutout. He'd finish with 35 saves, 23 in the third period alone, to earn Frozen Four MVP honors.

Davis' head-standing performance and two second-period goals by Jared Wright and Rieger Lorenz, separated by 5:34, were the difference for DU, helping secure the program's second national championship in three seasons. Meanwhile, the title is the Pioneers' 10th in history, leaping over Michigan (nine) for the most all-time.

As for Davis, along with his MVP performance on Saturday, he's put together an impressive run bound to attract attention from NHL teams.

He's been arguably one of the best goaltenders in the country leading up to the championship game. In March, the Hockey Commissioners Association named him Goaltender of the Month after he went 9-1-0 with a 1.89 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage.

As an undrafted NHL free agent, Davis is free to sign with any team. However, he's ineligible for this year's Stanley Cup playoffs.
