Coach Peter Laviolette unhappy to lose Jacob Trouba

While the actions of Jacob Trouba could be debated, his leadership skills have made him a top member of the New York Rangers defence. His suspension is likely going to create a huge gap, something his coach Peter Laviolette is not happy about.

Speaking to the media before the Rangers took down the Ottawa Senators, Laviolette hailed the qualities of the 29-year-old NHLer and called him a “ big piece” of their backline.

That’s a big piece on our back end. His leadership, his defense, his physicality. Plays against other teams top lines. That’s a piece that is missing. An opportunity for others to step up. Peter Laviolette on Jacob Trouba’s suspension as per NY Post.

Ever since joining the Rangers, Trouba has been fined twice. His first violation came in the 2019-20 season where he was fined $5,000 for slashing then St. Louis Blues defenseman Vince Dunn . His second fine came recently when he high-sticked Bruins’ forward Trent Frederic.

The Rangers though ended up winning the game against the Senators with a 7-2 scoreline in their favor without their captain. This result saw them extend their lead on top of the Metropolitan Division with a 30-16-3 record.

They will now look for a positive set of results after the All-Star break when they face the Central Division leaders, the Colorado Avalanche. Trouba’s leadership will play a key role in his side’s run to the Stanley Cup playoffs.
