Penguins Goalie Prospect Joel Blomqvist Signs ATO with WBS
USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Penguins will have a closer look at their top goalie prospect as Joel Blomqvist has signed amateur tryout agreements with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Blomqvist is a 21-year-old goalie who was drafted by the Penguins in 2020 and has yet to see much time on North American ice.

Ever since being drafted, Blomqvist has spent most of his time in his native Finland playing in SM-liiga with Karpat.

In 21 games played in Finlad this past season, Blomqvist notched a record of 6-5-8 with a .907 save percentage.

With his Finish season over, Blomqvist will join the WBS Penguins for the second time since being drafted.

Blomqvist finished the 2021-22 season with WBS and played in a single game where gave up two goals in a loss.

There is no set timeline when Blomqvist will see his number called to the NHL, but he is still regarded not only as the Penguins’ best goalie prospect, but one of the tops in their entire pipeline.

Forward Jami Krannila was also signed to an ATO with the AHL Penguins out of St. Cloud State.

The team in WBS should be a must watch for Penguins fans with the increasing number of prospects playing for the remainder of the season.

Owen Pickering was re-assigned to the AHL in the past week, Ty Smith has been there most of the season, and Sam Poulin has returned from his leave of absence.
