Report: Chase Young is a long shot to play against Giants

It’s been one month since the Washington Commanders designated defensive end Chase Young to return to practice. Yet, Young has still not played in a game. The wait may continue into the Commanders’ bye next week.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Young is considered a “long shot” to play in Sunday’s game against the New York Giants.

Young suffered a torn ACL a year ago, on Nov. 4, 2021. He underwent reconstructive surgery shortly afterward and embarked on a lengthy rehab.

Young began the season on the physically unable-to-perform list. But signs pointed to his return when Washington designated him to return to practice on Nov. 2.

Washington used the entire 21-day window to active Young to the 53-man roster. Still, he did not play in the Commanders’ win against the Atlanta Falcons last week. The team attributed Young’s absence to an illness.

Chase Young was limited this week in practice. Washington listed him as questionable on the final injury report Friday.

There has been some concern about the field turf at the Giants’ home field at MetLife Stadium. However, Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said the turf would not be a factor in the decision to play Young.

Nevertheless, Young could miss his 21st consecutive game due to the torn ACL. The Commanders will go into their bye week after Sunday’s game before playing the Giants again back home at FedEx Field.

If the Commanders hold Young out this week, the wait for his return will carry into Week 15.
