NFL Draft bets: AFC East teams' first pick odds

We've entered NFL Draft week, and we still have the AFC divisions to get through. For most states, there is a rich NFL Draft betting market, with one of the options which position each team picks first. Today, we turn to the AFC East, fresh off the Jets finally acquiring Aaron Rodgers.

Odds are courtesy of DraftKings.

New England Patriots, pick No. 14

  • Offensive lineman (+225)
  • Cornerback (+225)
  • Wide receiver (+240)
  • Quarterback (+700)

There have been some murmurs that New England is attempting to move up in the draft to select a quarterback, and it's why QB's odds have started to rise in this draft market. It does seem that Mac Jones may not be the guy, but it may also be tough for New England to maneuver up from pick No. 14 to get themselves in a position to nab a passer they like.

This appears to be the sweet spot for a run on offensive linemean, and that is very much a big need for New England. Their offensive line did not play well last year, and they brought in 35-year old Riley Reiff to play RT, hardly an investment in the future. It may be boring, but New England does feel a few years away, and the best way to get back in the mix, especially in a loaded AFC, is stock up on strong linemen. Paris Johnson, Peter Skoronski and Broderick Jones could all be in play here.

The pick: Offensive lineman (+225)

New York Jets, pick No. 15

  • Offensive lineman (-270)
  • Defensive lineman (+280)
  • Wide receiver (+950)
  • Tight end (+2000)

After yesterday's trade for Aaron Rodgers, the first big domino has finally fallen for the Jets this offseason. The team is well-positioned to be competitive now, which yes, was the whole point of acquiring Rodgers.

The wide receiver and tight end room seem stocked up, so it's hard for us to recommend they go either of those positions with their first selection.

How do we proceed here? Offensive line is such the heavy favorite, and for good reason. The O-line had their struggles in 2022 and New York should be quite keen on protecting its new investment. At this price, it's impossible to get behind, so we turn to the other end of the trenches.

The Jets have some talent on the defensive line, but there's also room to grow this group. If a run of offensive linemen takes place before pick No. 15, don't be surprised if the Jets either move back or grab the best available player, which is very likely to be on the DL. We'll take a stab there, but go light — this pick is probably OL.

The pick: Defensive lineman (+280)

Buffalo Bills, pick No. 27

  • Wide receiver (+200)
  • Defensive lineman (+250)
  • Linebacker (+275)
  • Offensive lineman (+380)

Evidenced by such a solid cluster of options all near the same price, it's clear that many don't know which direction Buffalo goes in here. It's understandable at the tail end of the first, as much will happen before Buffalo finally gets on the clock.

We're liking the favorite here, wide receiver. The Bills' defense has remained strong, and for Buffalo to get over the hump in the AFC they may very well just need to outgun these other elite offenses. Stefon Diggs remains, and Gabriel Davis has shown flashes, but there's a steep drop off after them at the WR group.

Josh Allen needs more weapons, and this appears to be the spot in the draft when the run on pass-catchers is expected to begin. Whether it's one of Zay Flowers or Jordan Addison falling, or Buffalo going for Quentin Johnston, don't be surprised to see Buffalo go WR here.

The pick: Wide receiver (+200)

Miami Dolphins, pick No. 51

  • Offensive lineman (+210)
  • Tight end (+250)
  • Defensive lineman (+400)
  • Running back (+450)

Now, this is one that may be worth passing, but for completion sake, there are odds offered and we've promised to bring forth them all. Still, Miami does not have a selection until the middle of the second round. It's nearly impossible for us to project how the draft unfolds by the time Miami is up.

If the Dolphins look to continue surrounding Tua Tagovailoa with talent, we like the value on tight end here. Mike Gesicki is gone, leaving Durham Smythe and Eric Saubert at the top of the depth chart.

That's hardly a menacing group, and there are some very intriguing Day 2 tight end prospects in this year's draft. Sam LaPorta from Iowa and Luke Musgrave from Oregon State are two we're excited to see in the NFL, and both seem like a natural fit in this Miami offense alongside Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

The pick: Tight end (+250)
