Where Are Phillies in Updated Pipeline Rankings?
USA TODAY Sports

The majority of the big named players on the Philadelphia Phillies are not homegrown from their minor league pipeline. The front office made a decision to attack the free agency market to turn into contenders.

The Phillies have been building their pipeline mainly through the draft, selecting young players to get into their minor league teams and work their way up the ranks.

Four players are listed on the Top 100 prospects list. RHP Andrew Painter (No. 29), RHP Mick Abel (No. 49); OF Justin Crawford (No. 82); 3B Aidan Miller (No. 96).

MLB.com put out their updated rankings of every team's pipeline.

Despite having four players in the Top 100, Philadelphia is ranked 23rd on the list. That is down from before the season when they were ranked 21st in the league.

Three writers put together the list and wrote this evaluation about the Phillies' pipeline.

"But they come with some questions now due to Painter’s Tommy John surgery and Abel’s command issues. There are some exciting young players at lower levels, and if they take steps forward, the Phillies could make a nice leap up this list."

It's a good sign despite the injury concerns of Painter that he stayed that high on the prospect list. He's an incredibly talented prospect and should be able to make an impact whenever he gets to the majors.

The Philadelphia front office is hoping that the young crop of talent they selected will continue to improve as they work they way up the minor leagues.

"On the surface, there are some great additions here, with two new Top 100 guys in Crawford -- their first-rounder in 2022 -- and Miller, their second straight high school hitter first-round pick."

Whether or not the pipeline is going to be used to add established major league players for World Series contention or if they'll be contributors to the Phillies is to be seen.
