Philadelphia Phillies Lose to Arizona Diamondbacks as Broadcast Team Thinks They Hit Go-Ahead HR

The Philadelphia Phillies lost on Monday to the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 9-8. The loss dropped the Phils to 32-34 on the season while the win elevated the surprising Diamondbacks to 41-25.

While a disappointing outcome, it was certainly an entertaining game, as it featured the 17 total runs but also 25 total hits.

The loss was tough for the Phillies because it prevented the team from getting to .500 on the year, and it was made even worse because of a gaffe by the Phillies broadcast team, and Kody Clemens.

With two outs in the ninth inning, Clemens came to the plate and laced a ball down the right field line. The Phillies broadcast team called it as a home run and reacted accordingly, as it would have given the Phillies the lead. Clemens also ran around the bases but the umpires conferred and determined it to be foul.

Clemens struck out to end the game. Talk about a whirlwind of emotions.

I'll give the broadcasters a little slack, here. I don't know where exactly the broadcast booth is situated at Chase Field, and that ball was tucked in the corner, it definitely could have been hard to see upon first glance, and with Clemens acting like he had homered as well, it just adds confirmation to what you think you've seen.

It's not the first time that the Phillies broadcast team has gone viral this year. John Kruk reminded us how much he hates the pitch clock back in May.

The two teams will play again on Tuesday at 9:40 p.m. ET.
