Ex-F1 driver claims Lewis Hamilton might be able to win the championship with Ferrari unlike Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton , the seven-time world champion has joined Ferrari for the 2025 F1 season. This announcement was made ahead of the ongoing campaign and while the Tifosi have started counting down the days till they see Hamilton in the iconic red, the former F1 driver, Jacques Villeneuve has admitted that the Brit might be able to do what Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel didn’t manage.

It has been well over a decade since Ferrari was able to win the drivers’ world championship. Since Kimi Raikkonen‘s 2007 heroics, none of the drivers have managed to land a world title. Fernando Alonso tried between 2010 – 2014 whereas Sebastian Vettel took his shot from 2015 onwards till 2020.

However, despite their best efforts, both of them never won the world championship with Ferrari. While the two F1 stalwarts were not able to win the title with the Italian outfit, Jacques Villeneuve feels Lewis Hamilton could do it in the coming years.

They tried with [Sebastian] Vettel, but Vettel was burnt out by the time he joined Ferrari. Alonso had almost worked out, but it became too chaotic. Lewis could be the one to put that past of Ferrari behind finally. You get the biggest driver of all time joining the biggest team of all time, it’s hard to make it any better than that. Jacques Villeneuve said in an interview with Silverarrows.net

Hamilton has tremendous pedigree at the pinnacle of motor racing. He was amassing world championships for fun during the turbo hybrid era and with a switch to Ferrari from 2025 onward, he could once again be seen fighting at the business end of the grid. From next year onwards, the onus will be on Fred Vasseur and co. to provide the Brit with potent machinery.

Jacques Villeneuve feels things will ‘settle down’ at Ferrari after Lewis Hamilton’s arrival

Hamilton has been competing in F1 since 2007. He is an absolute legend of the sport and with him joining a huge team like Ferrari, Villeneuve feels it will help bring a sense of calm to the team.

The 39-year-old’s 2025 move could turn out like the successful one he made in 2013 from McLaren to Mercedes!

With Ferrari, it’s always exciting because there’s always news, and if you get Lewis in there and all this mega-complex situation, this could be the thing that settles everything down for a bit, giving Ferrari what they’ve been missing as a base so they can actually move forward. Jacques Villeneuve said in the same interview

Lewis Hamilton has not had the best of times under the current set of F1 regulations. Mercedes has not been able to produce world championship-worthy machinery and this has had an immensely negative effect on Hamilton’s records. Keeping in view everything that has been discussed, the 2025 season will be a fascinating watch for varied reasons.
