Our DAD. The bug killer, the jungle gym, the hand to hold our jump ropes, and the one who saved us from the monsters in our closets. When mom would ground us without dessert he woud sneak us some cookies and when there were yucky carrots, on our plates, we would sneak them on his plate. We missed him when he would be called away on duty. He couldnt be there, because the Army needed him too. We waved goodbye and huged him tight. Sometimes not wanting to let him go. Every fathers day we would each take a boot and polish it. The "spit shine"it was called. If he could only imagin his 3 daughters spitting on his boots Im sure he would laugh. We spent hours spitting, the more spit the better mom always said. Afterwards we had a contest whos boot was the shinest. Whoever won got the great honor of polishing the last boot. We would then wrap them up and every year he would recieve a gift of shiny, spit shined boots from his 3 daughters. As the years came and went he watch his children leave home. He retired after faithfully serving the US Army for 30 years. One by one his daughters all applied to the US Military spicifically the Army, just like daddy. On May 31 2008 Dad had to sulute his daughter as she graduated from Westpoint. He cried that day. Another went into the comunication field and the third made it to MEPS and pasted the ASFAB with a 92. And so we are the daughters of an American Solder. And this year we would like to give him a jersey from his favorite team along with his spit shined boots.
Love you Santonio Holmes!

my dad is an great man. he taught me more about compassion and the value of helping others than anyone else has. and obvy, he taught me how to love sports... and he calls me every time kentucky wins a basketball game. bonus
but more importantly, this blog reminds people to appreciate the good in their fathers. some folks aren't so fortunate to have great fathers, but reading these stories makes me super happy. in the age of the internet, so many people are committed to staying behind their computers and sending greetings through net channels instead of calling or even handwriting a note for father's day. cheers to you, santonio, and to all the above. i hope your kids will be able to share great stories about their dad like these. my dad's still finding ways to become a better father every day, and it's pretty tough when he's already the best :)

On a serious note, me and my Dad don't go around saying we love each other and hugging, but we both know that our bond is strong. I don't mind it this way. No drama, just unconditional love.

What a terrific idea! Thanks for taking the time to recognize fathers. Unfortunately for me this will be my first fathers day without mine. He passed away last September. It is very difficult to realize that you will never talk to your father again after his passing. Even though he was pretty sick near the end, his voice was always the same and one I will never forget. My father was a strong man who worked hard his entire life so I could be provided for. He was a retired truck driver and didn't have much time to help with sports but was always there for me as I played baseball, football and basketball growing up. He was an excellent example of what a father should be; strong, loving, willing to discipline when needed and ALWAYS there for me. Death is part of life, just not the easy part.
For all the sons and daughters out there, appreciate your father every day, because one day he may not be there.
Thanks again Santonio,
Mike Green

What a great idea, thank you! Unfortunately for me this will be my first fathers day without my father. He passed away last September. Being a father is not always easy and my father was certainly one of the best. He was a strong man who worked very hard to provide for me and taught me how to be a man and a father. It's difficult to explain the realization that you will never hear a voice again that is ingrained into your brain. Not being able to call my dad this Sunday will be very tough for me. We were very close and he was a great man. I'm going to take my 14 year old son to the mountains for some fishing, and hiking, which was something my dad taught me to do.
To all the sons and daughters out there; appreciate your dads EVERY day, not just Fathers day, because one day they will not be there and you will miss them more than you can imagine.
Thanks again for doing this Santonio.

My family is full of Eagles fans, but I wanted to tell everyone I have a wonderful father. My parents divorced when I was very young and my father raised me along with my wonderful grandmother. (My mother re-married an abusive drunk) I was daddy's little girl. I still am. If he would not have raised me, I would not have had the opportunity to further my education if I would have graduated high school. I may have been abused by my step dad. My dad would rescue me when my first car would break down, he took me to my first Eagles game, Hershey Bears game and Phillies game. When I became a huge hockey fan, he took me to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto (the old hall) and we went to a Blue Jays game that same trip. He is a wonderful father, and it is tough to watch him turn into an old man. He has been stricken with diabetes, but he still plays football with my sons.
Continue to be a good father to your adorable son, we all grow up too fast. I hope the winner enjoys his prize.
